RHS Arenaria montana Seeds 100 Seeds, Hardy Perennial White Carpet Flower for Borders, Rockeries and Edging

RHS Arenaria montana Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce a low growing evergreen perennial that forms a dense carpet of crisp white flowers. This hardy plant is ideal for edging paths, filling gaps in walls and softening the front of sunny borders.

Arenaria montana grows to approximately 10cm in height with a spread of around 30cm. It forms neat mats of green foliage that remain attractive throughout the year. From May to August the plant becomes covered in simple white blooms with soft yellow centres, creating a bright and clean display.

This variety thrives in full sun and well drained soil. It is particularly suited to rockeries, gravel gardens and raised beds where drainage is good. Once established it is tolerant and low maintenance.

The compact habit makes it perfect for planting along pathways or between paving stones. It can also be used at the front of borders to create a tidy edge. The flowers attract pollinators and bring early summer brightness to smaller garden spaces.

This variety has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliable garden performance. It is part of the seed range produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society. Gardeners can expect dependable germination and strong results in UK conditions.

For sowing, seeds may require cooler temperatures before germination and can be erratic. Sow from February to April or from September to November in trays of moist compost. Do not cover seed with compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Leave trays in a sheltered outdoor position out of direct sunlight. Protect from birds and mice.

When large enough to handle, transplant to individual 7.5cm pots. Plant out 25cm apart in flowering position from summer onwards. Autumn sowings will flower from early summer the following year.

RHS Arenaria montana is a practical and attractive ground covering perennial that provides structure, neatness and dependable seasonal colour.
